Privacy Policy
Last updated: 11 March 2026
Morningly ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Morningly mobile application (the "App").
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you use Morningly, an anonymous account is automatically created for you. We do not require your name, email address, or any other personally identifiable information to create this account. Each account is identified by a randomly generated unique identifier (UUID). There is no sign-up form, no password, and no personal data required to get started.
1.2 Profile Information (Optional)
You may optionally provide the following information to enhance your experience:
- Display Name: Used to personalise your alarm content (e.g., "Good morning, Alex"). This is optional and can be changed or removed at any time.
- Temperature Unit Preference: Metric or Imperial, used for weather information in alarm briefings.
1.3 Location Information
We collect your approximate location (city and country) to provide local weather data and location-relevant news in your alarm content. Location is determined in two ways:
- Device Location (GPS): If you grant location permission, the App uses your device's location services to determine your city and country. This provides the most accurate and up-to-date location, especially when travelling. Location permission is optional and only requested when you enable weather features. Only coarse location (city-level) is stored — we do not store GPS coordinates.
- IP Geolocation (Fallback): If location permission is not granted, we derive your approximate location from your IP address. This is less accurate and may not reflect your current location if you are using a VPN or travelling.
You can view your detected location in the App settings at any time and refresh it with a single tap. Location data is used solely for personalising your alarm content and is never shared with third parties for advertising or tracking purposes.
1.4 Alarm Data
We store information about the alarms you create, including:
- Alarm time and repeat schedule
- Content type and category preferences (e.g., News — Technology, Finance; Music — Lo-fi, Classical)
- Voice selection and volume settings
- Generated audio content (stored temporarily on our servers)
1.5 Subscription Information
If you subscribe to Morningly, we store your Google Play purchase token, product identifier, and subscription expiry date. We do not have access to your payment card details — all payment processing is handled securely by Google Play. Your subscription status is verified server-side against Google Play's API on each alarm creation and periodically in the background.
1.6 Device Permissions
The App may request the following device permissions solely for alarm functionality:
- Notifications: To deliver alarm notifications and alerts.
- Exact Alarms: To schedule alarms at precise times (required on Android 12+).
- Display Over Other Apps: To show full-screen alarm alerts when your phone is locked or you're using another app.
- Location: To detect your city and country for weather and location-relevant content. This permission is optional and only requested when you enable weather features. No GPS coordinates are stored.
- Vibration: To enable vibrate mode on alarms.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect solely to operate and improve the App:
- Generate personalised alarm content (news briefings, speeches, music, and ambient audio)
- Include relevant weather information based on your location
- Personalise your experience using your display name (if provided)
- Schedule and deliver alarms at the correct times
- Manage your subscription status and entitlements
- Diagnose and fix bugs to improve the App
3. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud-hosted database platform built on PostgreSQL. Supabase enforces row-level security, meaning you can only access your own data through your anonymous session. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections. We follow industry-standard security practices to protect your information.
Generated audio content for your alarms is stored temporarily in cloud storage and is periodically cleaned up on a regular schedule to minimise data retention.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share data with the following third-party services solely to operate the App:
- Supabase: Database hosting, authentication, and file storage.
- AI Content Providers: To generate alarm content (news, speeches, music). Only your content preferences and relevant context are shared — not your personal information.
- Google Play: For subscription verification and payment processing.
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in the App.
5. Data Retention
- Account Data: Retained for the lifetime of your account. You can request deletion at any time.
- Alarm Audio: Generated audio files are stored temporarily and cleaned up on a regular schedule (typically within 48 hours after the alarm fires).
- Subscription Data: Retained for the duration of your subscription plus a reasonable period for record-keeping and anti-fraud purposes.
- Location Data: Your detected location is cached for up to 6 hours and is refreshed automatically. You can force refresh at any time.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: View all your profile and alarm data within the App settings.
- Modify: Update your display name, location, and preferences at any time directly from the App.
- Delete: Delete individual alarms at any time. To request deletion of your entire account and all associated data, contact us at support@morningly.app. We will process your request within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
Morningly is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take immediate steps to delete that information.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting a notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
